    Microsoft launches Surface Pro 3

    By Thomas Oakey - Microsoft unveiled the newest member of its Surface family on Tuesday, with Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella introducing the Surface Pro 3 to crowds at a dedicated event in New York.Faster, bigger, and with more accessories than its predecessor, Microsoft hope the Surface Pro 3 will finally be the device that can be used comfortably as both a tablet and a laptop.It certainly looks like itíll do just that when itís launched on general sale in the US and Canada on June 20, 2014. Despite its improved 12-inch touchscreen, it weighs just 800g and is a slender 9.1mm thin.

    Its processing power is greater than that of a laptop too, with core i3, i5 or i7 processors, and comes with a kickstand capable of transforming it into a fully-fledged PC Ė as well as an adjustable kickstand for the perfect viewing experience. All that, plus reinvented Surface Pen, a full-size USB 3.0 port, microSD card reader and Windows 8.1 Pro to boot.For more on the Surface 3, click or swipe the image above.

    The Surface Pro 3 comes with a special backlit Surface Pro Type Cover which will allow users to work and play whatever the hour. What's more, it's one of the thinnest mechanical keyboards on the market with a full QWERTY keyboard, all the standard Windows function and shortcut keys and an 63% larger touchpad. Buyers can stamp their own identity on the Surface too, with a choice of five colour options - purple, red, blue, cyan and black.
    Users will be able to work just as comfortably on their laps as their desks with the help of the Surface Pro Type Cover, which features a double-fold hinge that keeps everything steady by magnetically locking to the tablet.
    Users will be able to experience a 12-inch ClearType Full HD display when they purchase the Surface Pro 3.

    Microsoft's Surface tablets are doing the company few favours it seems as the firm is reportedly still losing money on the devices, Sales have improved, but with that has come\come increased production costs - and as a result of these, Microsoft has aparently lost $45m during the last financial quarter, according to a recent filing. It's hardly fresh news that Microsoft has struggled to make its mark in the tablet arena, but these losses perhaps point to the need for a change in the long-term strategy for the Surface.
