Well done to UK satellite team Inmarsat for offering a free tracking service to passenger airliners around the globe. This is as a di reet response to the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 as it was pings from the company's equipment that led to the ongoing search for wreckage in the Indian Ocean.

Inmarsat's free service would provide consumers with "definitive" positional information using GPS to determine a plane's location. Said data would be transmitted over the company's global satellite network and as its equipment is already in place on 900/0 of the world's wide-body jets as it is, there is no cost for providing this service, according to a company spokesperson speaking with the BBC.
